We Need More Success Stories

Jose Perez and Julian Spenser described their path from troubled youth to productive adulthood. ("Transform schools to transform lives" Star Tribune 7/19/2023). Thanks, Star Tribune, for publishing this story and highlighting the importance of teachers, coaches and mentors who take an interest in young people and build hope into their lives.

Now, Star Tribune, do some investigative reporting, focused on exposing and shaming the irresponsibility of the entertainment industry. The usual cheap thrills offered glorify all the wrong behaviors. What do the action heroes do, after all? They fight, they take revenge. They do not admit when they are wrong and do not forgive anyone who wrongs them.

To write about real heroes takes genuine creativity but there are real stories to be written. The drama of living a life that not only stays out of trouble but makes a positive difference in the lives of others is a thrill greater than the mayhem we are usually served.

What will it take to change that direction? Adverse publicity? Threat of financial loss? Legal action? Maybe a personal injury law firm can start a class action suit. Or maybe the Hollywood moguls have a conscience after all!
