Subject: What Next?
What Next?
It is a great victory for truth and justice that the long contested culpability of Catholic priests for sexual
abuse of minors has been acknowledged and compensated – for whatever monetary awards can do
towards healing. There is much psychological and spiritual healing that needs to continue as well as a
hope for true repentance and acceptance of consequences by the perpetrators and facilitators.
It is ironic that this has happened among those who know that God created sexuality but intended it to
remain within the limits for which it was designed. They also know that inclinations to do otherwise are
temptations authored by a powerful spiritual being bent on distortion and destruction.
Combined with the #MeToo movement, does this conclude the cleanup project of our
culture? Hardly!
Anonymous surveys of adults indicates that intergenerational sex is widespread. The
remainder of the project will not involve the deep pockets that make it profitable or the exposure of
celebrity offenders that make it sensational. And it may have to involve a change of heart in the
offenders, realizing that the presence of a desire does not mean it is either right or irresistible.
